The Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) and OSBA team up once again to bring you a dynamic day of professional development. From nuts and bolts to academics, this workshop will provide ESC board members, administrators and others with the resources they need to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Lake County ESC Superintendent Linda Williams will review her ESC’s dual credit program, which enabled 66 students to earn 300 hours of college credits during the 2006-2007 school year. A panel discussion on the status of Ohio’s Educational Regional Service System will be moderated by OESCA Executive Director Craig Burford. The OSBA legislative staff will provide a legislative update.

10:15 a.m. Public/Private Partnerships Support Higher Learning Opportunities: Lake County ESC’s Dual Credit Program
The ESC of Lake County has partnered with Lakeland Community College, First Energy, International Westinghouse, and Bartlett International Technologies in an innovative public/private dual credit program that enabled 66 students to earn 300 hours of credit in the 2006-2007 school year alone. Learn more about how this unique program addresses the educational and workforce development needs of Lake and Geauga counties and how similar partnerships may work in your service territory.

11:15 a.m. Implementation of Ohio’s Educational Regional Service System (ERSS): A Status Report From the Field
This session will include a panel discussion on how the Educational Regional Service System (ERSS) is being implemented in various regions across the state and how services are being delivered.

1:00 p.m. Science Enhancements for Science Advancement – Learn how the Allen County ESC partners with two local businesses (an oil refiner and a chemical plant) to provide volunteer engineers to local elementary and middle school classrooms to present hands-on science instruction that is tied to state academic content standards. To date, there have been over 210,000 student impacted across 9 school districts.

2:00 p.m. The Uniqueness of Leadership Roles of CEO’s of ESA - This session features the results of a survey and study conducted to determine to what extent the role of a CEO of a regional educational service agency requires different skills and knowledge than the knowledge and skills required of a superintendent of a local school district.
William G. Keane, author, “The Educational Service Agency: American Education’s Invisible Partner”. Bill is also an associate professor in the school of education and human services at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
3:00 p.m. Ohio’s Role in a 5-State Study on School Improvement: Examiningg the Capacity of ESAs in the Great Lakes Region - Ohio is one of 5 Midwest states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin) involved in a study conducted by LearningPoint Associates, Great Lakes East, and AESA, which examines the role of Educational Service Agencies in building both state level capacity and local district capacity around school improvement. This session will share the preliminary results of the study and the implications for Ohio’s ESCs.

Cancellation and refund policy
- Cancellations received by OSBA at least four
workdays before the date of the workshop will
receive a full refund or no charge to the district.
- Cancellations received less than four workdays
before will have one-third of the fee charged
to the district.
- No-shows and cancellations the day of the
workshop will be charged the full registration
amount.
LPDC/Award of Achievement credit:
This one-day seminar entitles board members to OSBA Award of Achievement credits. Local Professional Development Committee certificates of attendance will be issued to all workshop attendees. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.
