9:45 a.m. Strategic management of electronic information
School districts should create, understand and manage electronic information with the same precision and strategy they expect of their physical assets. Often they do not and, as a result, they violate express regulations, create and maintain communications that increase the likelihood of liability, and put themselves in an undesirable strategic position in litigation. This session will review with attendees key points in liability-minimizing electronic records management using a case study approach.

11:30 a.m. Update from the School Employees Health Care Board
The School Employees Health Care Board originally was created in 2005 to examine opportunities to establish health care pooling among Ohio’s school districts. The Board has changed its focus, now preparing to make recommendations for health care best practices. Representatives of the Board will be present to discuss the best practices recommendations and answer your questions about health care for school employees.

1:00 p.m. Dos and don’ts of negotiation from a mediator’s perspective
Join an experienced mediator and get his perspective on negotiations, mediations and strikes. The presentation will include a brief overview or “refresher” on the various types of bargaining (e.g. traditional, common sense traditional, IBB, etc.) and the relative pros and cons of those various types of negotiation models.

This panel will give you the perspective of both an attorney and a client on 504 complaint investigations.  Learn what investigators look for, how to advise your clients and what your clients want to know about this process.

Tuition is $95 per person for OSBA member district representatives and OCSBA members, which covers registration, materials and lunch. OSBA does not send confirmation of registration. "Walk-in" registrations are welcome on a space-available basis only. The workshop is conducted in a relaxed classroom atmosphere; dress is casual.

Cancellation and refund policy

  • Cancellations received by OSBA at least four workdays before the date of the workshop will receive a full refund or no charge to the district.
  • Cancellations received less than four workdays before will have one-third of the fee charged to the district.
  • No-shows and cancellations the day of the workshop will be charged the full registration amount.

This course has been approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for 5.50 total CLE hour(s), with 1.00 of ethics, 0.00 of professionalism and 0.50 of substance abuse instruction.
