A revised, nonregulatory guidance document is available that addresses new issues raised by state and local officials in light of their experiences in administering and carrying out the school restructuring provisions authorized in the No Child Left Behind Act. This document provides additional clarification and rationale about school restructuring. This guidance does not impose any requirements beyond those that the law specifies and, where possible, encourages varying approaches and focuses on what can be done, rather than on what cannot be done. NSBA Federal Relations Network Conference honors legislation
Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), who introduced the No Child Left Behind Improvements Act during the 109th Congress, received a special award from the National School Boards Association at NSBA’s 34th annual Federal Relations Network Conference in Washington. The conference ran Jan. 28–30. It is a vital year for education, because during the 110th Congress it is expected that the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act will take place. Sen. Edward Kennedy (D.Mass.) also spoke at the conference and has already introduced a K-12 education bill for reauthorizing NCLB.
